Valentine’s Day: From the rustic outdoor couple to the luxe hotel goers

I love, love.

Valentine’s Day is approaching and it’s time to show appreciation for your friends, loved one, or yourself. Take a look at some example itineraries coming up in our series and let me plan it for you!

Weekend Getaway for the Luxe Couple

2 pm Get complimentary early check-in to your 4-star hotel in Washington D.C. or Virginia. Have the concierge take your bags up to your room and grab a quick welcome drink at the bar. Head upstairs and get ready for your evening extravaganza!

6 pm Enjoy your reservation at a romantic Michelin-star restaurant fit for your budget, cuisine preference, and location. Enjoy a multi-course dinner prepared by a nationally recognized chef and be astounded by their creativity (get extra fancy and pair a wine with each meal).

11 am Sleep in and enjoy a complimentary late checkout. Roll out of bed, and head down to the lobby for free breakfast or brunch. Feel free to use your late checkout to lay in bed or go out exploring. If you’d like to stay for the day, the hotel can hold your bags while you go out and about.

Budget estimate: $600+

Weekend Away for the Rustic Couple

Not everyone wants a luxe kind of excursion. Luxe doesn’t mean better, it’s a description of what kind of trip you prefer. The perfect trip for you will reflect your favorite activities that help you relax and have fun. I’ve created an itinerary for the simpler, more rustic couple who enjoys the fresh air.

11 am Check into Swann House, a 4-star historic Dupont Circle mansion in Washington DC. It’s still in the city, but has a more B&B feel while providing 4-star luxuries (out-of-the-city alternative is River Mountain Lodge in PA or Cherry Hill Park for glampers!)

2 pm Get some afternoon fresh air after a light lunch and hike Klingle Valley Trail nearby (10-minute drive from Swann House)

Swann House Front View

9 am Enjoy free breakfast at Swann House before heading home! If you want a bonus activity, ask to leave your bags while you head to Residents Café & Bar (about a 10-minute walk from your accommodation). You can also take a dip in the Swann House sparkling pool on the property to get some last aquatic relaxation in.

Budget Estimate: $300+
